Amazing Discounts and "Special Benefits" Seniors Are Entitled To But Often Forget to Claim

How Americans Are Saving Thousands of Dollars A Year With These Retirement Boosters

Everyone knows about basic, everyday discounts at restaurants and popular retailers, but you would be surprised to learn about some of the biggest discounts and Special Programs now available to help adults cut expenses and boost their retirement. Unfortunately many Americans are missing out entirely, simply because they don't know these programs exist.

That's why we put together this list of the simplest things anyone can do right now to save a small fortune this year.

Note That: Many of these programs are only available online and could expire as early as this . We encourage you to claim the items in the list below to make the most of it while they last.

1. Collecting Social Security? Consider a "Do-Over" and Get a Benefits Boost

An obscure tax law allows those who collect social security to halt current benefits, pay back everything collected (interest-free), and restart benefits at a new, higher rate based on your current age. It's called "do-over" and it can dramatically increase social security.

Here's how it works... Let's say someone qualifies for full benefits of $1,600 a month at their normal retirement age of 66, but they decide to begin collecting benefits at 62. As a result, their retirement benefits will be reduced by 25% for the rest of their life (to $1,200 a month in this example) because they'll be collecting a smaller benefit for a longer period of time.

On the other hand, if that person delayed collecting benefits, they will receive an 8% boost for every year beyond their normal retirement age until they reach 70, when their maximum benefit will be 132% of what they would have received at age 66. In this example, this person would receive about $2,100 a month at 70 -- a $900 difference!

Most don't realize this option is available to them, but that doesn't mean it's for everyone. Be sure to crunch the numbers and speak with a qualified advisor before doing anything drastic.

2. How to Reduce Your Electric Bill — Homeowners Go Solar Now And Enjoy Low Electric Bills

Here's something the power company doesn't want you to know. A little-known program gives homeowners who live in these certain areas a big incentive to switch to solar.

The program is at the federal level, under Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credit taxpayers can claim up to 26% of qualified expenses for investing in a solar system for a home you own and live in, which provides subsidies and rebates that can help with costs to go solar and improve your monthly electric bills once and for all. In fact, the average tax break gives back $4,860 for installing solar panels.

Has your power company told you that? Most likely not. That's because once homeowners go solar, their energy bill is reduced by 25%. You can bet the energy companies are not too thrilled about that.

Homeowners should check to see if your home qualifies here before the program expires. Connect with solar installers and be on your way to eliminating electric bills.

9. Make A Grocery List

.

You ever go to the grocery store when you're hungry and find yourself checking out with way more than you intended? We call this "Hunger Shopping" and it's quite dangerous to your wallet!

Before going to get groceries, make a list of groceries that you need for the upcoming week. That way, you only buy what you're intending to use and the amount that will get thrown away from being expired is kept to a minimal.

10. Buy in Bulk

One of the easiest things you can do to instantly start saving money is to buy in bulk! Retailers often give a MUCH better deal on products such as paper towel, toilet paper, detergent, etc if you buy in bulk.

This might seem like an obvious one, but we often forget how much money we waste by not buying in bulk.
